Kerry, Hagel meet Australian counterparts
Australian Foreign Minister Julie Bishop hosts talks in Sydney with US Secretary of State John Kerry and Defence Secretary Chuck Hagel. They will discuss bilateral issues, including defence and security cooperation, as well as disputes in the South China Sea, Iraq and Ukraine. The two sides will also sign an agreement on the deployment of US Marines to Australia. Both Bishop and Kerry attended the weekend Association of Southeast Asian Nations meetings in Myanmar.
 
Islamic foreign ministers focus on Gaza
Foreign ministers from the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation hold an emergency meeting at the group's headquarters in Jeddah. They will discuss the situation in Gaza, which came under Israeli attack after militants fired rockets into the Jewish state. The meeting will be chaired by Saudi Foreign Minister Saud al-Faisal. Also attending will be Palestinian Prime Minister Rami Hamdallah.
 
Egyptian president travels to Moscow
Egyptian President Abdel-Fattah el-Sisi meets his Russian counterpart, Vladimir Putin, in Moscow. They will discuss bilateral economic, political and military cooperation. One of the main topics is likely to be discussion about a possible Egyptian free-trade agreement with the Eurasian Economic Union, which is set to come into being next year between Russia, Belarus and Kazakhstan. Sisi last visited Moscow in February.
 
West Kowloon consultation on the agenda
The consultation panel of the West Kowloon Cultural District Authority holds its 13th meeting. Chaired by Open University president John Leong Chi-yan, members will discuss the public engagement exercise on the park to be built at the West Kowloon site, the acquisition policy of the M+ Museum and the public exhibition of its collection, which includes a large donation of Chinese contemporary art by Uli Sigg. The only structure currently being built at the site is the Xiqu Cantonese opera venue.
 
SOCO discusses public housing waiting list
Members of the Society for Community Organisation meet the chairman of the Housing Authority's subsidised housing committee, Stanley Wong Yuen-fai, to discuss the long waiting list for public rental housing. The government has set a target of three years for those on the waiting list to be granted a public housing flat. SOCO estimates that 250,000 people are currently waiting for homes.
 
Spanish teams face off in Uefa Super Cup
Champions League winners Real Madrid take on Europa League champions Sevilla in the Uefa Super Cup in the Welsh city of Cardiff. Real Madrid defeated cross-town rivals Atletico Madrid 4-1 in extra time in the Champions League final, while Sevilla beat Benfica 4-2 on penalties after a game devoid of goals.
