Former chief executive Tung Chee-hwa and his delegation of Hong Kong tycoons meet President Xi Jinping in Beijing. They will discuss Hong Kong's economic development and plans for the 2017 chief executive election. Among those taking part are Cheung Kong (Holdings) chairman Li Ka-shing and Henderson Land chief Lee Shau-kee. They are expected to meet other state leaders, including National People's Congress chairman Zhang Dejiang.
A week-long university student class boycott starts. Students from various tertiary institutions are taking part in the campaign, which is being held to protest against Beijing's restrictions on the 2017 chief executive poll. The first event will be a rally at Chinese University. Participants also plan to protest outside the government headquarters in Admiralty. Some secondary school students will join them in a class boycott on Friday.
