Xi Jinping's legal reforms top plenum agenda

The fourth plenum of the Communist Party, which opens today in Beijing, is set to focus on bolstering the rule of law. President Xi Jinping has put legal reforms at the top of his agenda as he seeks to push home his anti-corruption campaign. Analysts expect more than 350 members of the party's Central Committee to discuss setting up a new super anti-graft agency and reform of the party's political and legal affairs commission - formerly headed by detained security tsar Zhou Yongkang .

 

As panic over the Ebola epidemic spreads across the globe, Nigeria is today expected to be declared free of the deadly virus by the World Health Organisation after 42 days without any confirmed cases. WHO praised health officials' management of the disease in Nigeria, where it said "on a piece of world-class epidemiological detective work", all confirmed cases were traced back to a Liberian air traveller, who introduced the virus to the country in July.
