Kim Dotcom ruling handed down in HK
A Hong Kong High Court judge delivers his ruling on whether internet entrepreneur Kim Dotcom can regain control of HK$330 million which was seized by customs officers in January 2012 in connection with a US attempt to prosecute him for alleged copyright fraud. The case relates to the operations of his Megaupload website, which allowed users to share music and films. Dotcom is fighting extradition to the US from New Zealand, where he now lives. He formerly lived here.
 
Lord Hoffman focuses on arbitration
The Hong Kong International Arbitration Centre hosts a talk by Court of Final Appeal non-permanent judge Lord Hoffman on the rule of law in the context of international arbitration. Lord Hoffman is a retired law lord of England and Wales and is a practising arbitrator and mediator. The Hong Kong centre was set up in 1985 to provide a less costly means to settle commercial and personal disputes.
 
Afghanistan donor conference takes place
Britain and Afghanistan co-host a conference in London aimed at seeking donations to boost Kabul's economy at a time when a new government is establishing itself and the Taliban is mounting more terrorist attacks. The meeting is co-hosted by British Prime Minister David Cameron and Afghan President Ashraf Ghani. The session brings together ministers and representatives of international bodies.
 
China marks first Constitution Day
The country celebrates its first Constitution Day with events throughout the country. The special day was proclaimed earlier this year in a bid to enhance social awareness about the charter and strengthen its implementation in the spirit of adhering to the rule of law. The current constitution was adopted in December 1982, although several amendments have been made since then. The constitution was based on a previous document enacted in 1954 - five years after the founding of the People's Republic.
 
Putin gives annual address to parliament
Russian President Vladimir Putin gives his annual address to a joint session of parliament. He is expected to focus on ways to combat the country's economic slump following a sharp decline in oil prices. The rouble has also been tumbling in value. This is Putin's 11th address to parliament and the first time that he also includes a budget address. He may also touch on the ongoing unrest in eastern Ukraine.
 
Nobel Prize medal goes under hammer
A Nobel Prize medal, awarded to American scientist James Watson for the 1953 co-discovery of DNA, goes under the hammer at a Christie's auction in New York. Watson is the first living recipient to auction off a medal. It is expected to fetch up to US$3.5 million.
