A resignation email from the managing director of the URA laid bare conflict at the highest levels of the body, prompting a public rethink about the role of the self-financing authority. The email to URA staff written by Iris Tam Siu-ying said she was quitting because of irreconcilable differences with the chairman, Victor So Hing-woh, and warned that the URA should not act like a developer. The body has faced mounting criticism for building expensive flats in collaboration with private developers and neglecting its social mission to improve livelihoods.

The young Singaporean has found himself in hot water after posting a YouTube video celebrating the death of former prime minister Lee Kuan Yew. Yee, 16, was charged with offences including obscenity and hurting religious feelings over the YouTube video, in which he described Lee, the country's founding leader, as a "horrible person" who was, like Jesus Christ, "power hungry and malicious". Yee was arrested on Sunday, the day of Lee's funeral. His father has publicly and tearfully apologised for Yee's behaviour. If convicted, Yee could face a jail term of three years, plus fines.
