When will the Hong Kong government start innovating for real?
When is Hong Kong going to get with the times? When we book sports facilities, we book through a website that looks like it is from the late 1990s.
Hong Kong has been left in the past and is considerably behind global peers in “digital advancements”. This is now affecting its dynamic environment and frustrating society with long, bureaucratic and unnecessary procedures.
When asked for information on digital innovation, such as a simple app to book sports facilities from the Leisure and Cultural Services Department, the response was “a new intelligent sports and recreation services booking and information system” was in the works, and this “new system will be launched in late 2021”. That is more than three years away!

Hong Kong was once thought to be the pinnacle of advancement. However, it has slipped considerably in the last 10 to 20 years. Whereas people once compared it to Singapore, they are now saying Beijing is more advanced.

When will the government take action and start innovating? Hong Kong needs to step into the 21st century, and this isn’t going to happen with a stamp on a bit of paper down in the government headquarters.
