Why Trump can claim no merit in scrapping Iran nuclear deal

Iran
Of course Iran should not be allowed to make nuclear weapons of mass destruction (“Donald Trump says US will withdraw from ‘rotten’ Iranian deal”, May 8). But then, why should the permanent members of the UN Security Council, and Israel, India or Pakistan be allowed to do so?

As far as past record is concerned, the US is the only country which has the dubious record of using nuclear weapons, on Hiroshima and Nagasaki of Japan in 1945.

As far as the problem in Syria goes, it can easily be solved by ensuring elections under the supervision of the UN and under the protection of its peacekeeping force. But the US, Russia (an ally of Syrian President Bashar al-Assad) and Saudi Arabia will not do it and will blame only Iran, though it is also guilty of bloodshed in Syria.

America can claim no merit in scrapping the nuclear deal with Iran and imposing sanctions on it, on the likely instigation of regional allies like Israel and Saudi Arabia.

It is only a matter of time when other signatories to the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action to curb Iran’s nuclear programme, especially European countries, will fall in line, on the dictates of the US. Iran will be isolated by the US and its camp followers, except China and Russia, the other signatories to the Iran nuclear deal.

But what is surprising is that Iran is trying to fight this high-handedness of the US by ineffective methods. If Iran is really serious about turning the tables on the US, Israel and Saudi Arabia, then it should agitate the issue of Jerusalem, which will earn Shia Iran immense goodwill from the entire Muslim world (including Sunnis) and from countries like India, which has always supported the cause of Palestinians.
