Roseanne reaction shows Donald Trump only cares about keeping his name in the news
I for one am sick and tired of President Donald Trump’s meanderings. The latest being the Roseanne Barr debacle (“Trump makes ‘Roseanne’ furore about him as Sanofi denounces racist tweet”, May 31)
She made racist remarks on Twitter, saying former Obama adviser Valerie Jarrett looked as though “muslim brotherhood & planet of the apes had a baby”, and ABC television did the right thing by cancelling her show.
But then, Trump jumped right in and demanded the media apologise to him for all the epithets thrown at him because of his gruff, confrontational style.
The US president makes anyone who dares to differ with his views “the enemy” and in this case (as in so many other scenarios) he’s dead wrong. His feud with the media and anyone who happens to disagree with him turns into a personal fight.
There were no racist remarks, but he chose to twist and spin the situation and make it all about “me”. This way, he keeps his name and face in the media 24/7, which is exactly what he wants. I'm not buying it for one minute.
That said, I wish President Trump much success in the upcoming summit talks with North Korea’s Kim Jong-un (“White House confirms Trump-Kim summit on Singapore’s resort island of Sentosa”, June 5).
