I first experienced Hong Kong over 60 years ago, in the late 1950s. I have also lived and worked in Hong Kong.
Before 1997, I was proud to have “Hong Kong belonger” stamped in my passport. Regrettably, I did not realise that with immigration changes and as I had not got my passport amended, my “belonger” status was cancelled.
I try to visit Hong Kong as much as I can, as I have family and relatives in the city. I wish to say that having lived and worked in many parts of the world, the people of Hong Kong have given me the most courtesy and kindness of all the places I have lived.
I am in my 80s, and have a mobility problem. On the MTR, people frequently offer me a seat, even some – if I am not wrong – who are over 60. Likewise, strangers assist me in transiting a bus or a taxi.
What more can I say but thank you so much Hong Kong, may god bless you and good luck for the future.
