Will Shenzhen model apply for customs checks on Hong Kong’s mega bridge to Zhuhai and Macau?
China’s General Administration of Customs now requires all passengers coming from Hong Kong to dismount from cross-border limousines at Shenzhen Bay border control, take all their luggage by hand (including heavy suitcases and packages) and carry it into the immigration and customs building for luggage screening.
After passing through immigration and customs, passengers rejoin their vehicle in the car park on the mainland China side. This is very inconvenient and time-consuming, and can be a difficult task for less-able-bodied passengers.
Will the same new rigorous policy as started at Shenzhen Bay in January be applied at the Zhuhai Bridge? If so, it will create a bottleneck of apocalyptic proportions. If that is the case, we will be able to say, “So much for the Greater Bay Area Initiative and more integration”.
