Thanks a million to Hong Kong public services for speedy typhoon action
Those of us who live on the south side of Hong Kong commend the firefighters, police and street sweepers who worked over several nights and days sawing trees, cleaning debris and opening otherwise inaccessible roads immediately after Typhoon Mangkhut.
Although there were inevitable traffic delays after an entire new beach washed up and over Deep Water Bay Road and elsewhere, let us be mindful of – and grateful for – the spirit of Hong Kong and acknowledge the massive effort these people have put in to get Hong Kong back on its feet. Thank you!

Public services stood tall amid adversity
Considering the strength of Typhoon Mangkhut (“Mangkhut officially Hong Kong’s most intense storm since records began”, September 17), Hong Kong weathered the storm well. Our public services are to be commended for the quick and efficient way they have and continue to clear typhoon damage. While we must never be complacent, instead of playing the blame game, let us appreciate the hard work and efficiency that Hong Kong can be proud of. Thank you!
