Why neither Donald Trump nor Carrie Lam can claim to be victims of cyber-bullying

Chief Executive Carrie Lam Cheng Yuet-ngor feels she is being “cyber-bullied” by the general public (“Hong Kong’s leader: I’ve been a victim of cyberbullying over Lantau reclamation scheme”, October 20).
Well, where to start? The fact that this makes Ms Lam sound like that famously paranoid egomaniac, Donald Trump, is problematic.

Ms Lam and Mr Trump wield enormous amounts of power and influence. Bullying is something that happens to weak people. Leaders do not whine about being mistreated. They lead, and convince people.

Ms Lam is confused if she believes criticism of her behaviour and statements is bullying. Ms Lam should behave in a way that is less intemperate and more worthy of respect, and should communicate to the people of Hong Kong that she is here to serve us. She is not here to dictate to us and then become petulant if we do not like what she says or does.
