Police tempted to doze off in their vehicles while on duty, as two Hong Kong constables were recently caught doing, must consider the example they are setting. Photo: Facebook

Letters | Did Hong Kong officers sleeping on the job commit a climate offence as well?

I refer to your report “Rude awakening for officers caught napping at wheel” (October 31). Undoubtedly, the dozy duo from Hong Kong’s finest acted in a very thoughtless and unprofessional manner and, being police force veterans, they should have known better. However, to err is human, and the incident should not be of major concern.

However, on looking closely at the photograph, it is clearly evident that the windows of the patrol car are wound up which, by extension, means the engine is running with the air conditioning on. Setting a good example for other selfish Hong Kong drivers who continually leave their engines idling when parked, regardless of the weather? Obviously not.

In addition, the police car is parked near a primary school, possibly inflicting young students with an unnecessary extra dose of pollutants. The idling engine matter should be a point of real concern and hopefully this will be addressed by senior officers when admonishing the naughty nappers.
