Letters | No ‘animal-lover’ would put endangered species at risk
I strongly agree with the wildlife trafficking concern group ADM Capital Foundation, which thought that the penalty handed down to James Chai Chee-cheung, the owner of a pet cremation service, was far from adequate.
For putting more than 19 animals in danger, including endangered species such as the giant salamander and slow loris, Chai received just 160 hours of community service, even though their condition was likened to a state of “slow euthanasia”. There was no jail term and three other charges were withdrawn.
As a self-proclaimed animal-lover, Chai should have known that the animals could not adapt to living among humans but kept them regardless. Can he claim to be an animal-lover if he shows so little respect for their well being?
