Letters | Brexit under Theresa May would be a surrender to Brussels
- Only slaves serve totally at the will of their masters, yet this is exactly what the prime minister is proposing for her country
Not since the year 991, when the Anglo-Saxon King Aethelred the Unready decided that it was a good plan to give the Vikings Danegeld in the hope that they’d go away (of course they didn’t, but came back for more), have the British had such a craven, ineffectual leader as Prime Minister Theresa May.
Her “negotiated” Brexit agreement subjects Britain to diktats issued from Brussels and enshrines the inability of the United Kingdom to manage its own economy and trade. Exit from the agreement is only allowed if Brussels says so. This will ensure an endless servitude.
Even indentured servants are given an end to their contracts. Only slaves serve totally at the will of their masters, yet this is exactly what the prime minister is proposing for her country.
No taxation without representation sparked a revolution across the Atlantic, and this agreement will spark one at home.
If she were able to force this agreement through Parliament, this prime minister would destroy her country and rip apart her party. I personally would be ashamed to call myself a Briton. All we can hope for now is that British MPs put their country before themselves and vote it down.
