For every life that is lost because of Covid-19 in India, we can only blame the government for letting down its guard. India was a success during the first wave of the pandemic, but unlike the protocols followed by Hong Kong, it opened its economy too soon. Now the nation is suffering from the consequences of government failure. This was once a country with a strict regime under former prime minister Indira Gandhi in the 1970s that would close borders without mercy. Today, under Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the country has witnessed the failure of believing in him as opposed to science. While Modi is a good man by nature and intention, sometimes there should be no mercy when you cause pain to so many people because of a lack of strict governance. He cannot compensate for the loss of loved ones to so many Indians who have died from Covid-19. It might be time for him to resign. Shanthi Arunachallam, Mid-Levels
