I am an 81-year-old resident of Baguio Villa, Victoria Road. On Thursday morning, I tripped and fell on the sidewalk around our park, tennis court and swimming pool. The pain was so intense that I was not able to get up. A caretaker from Phase 1 came to the rescue. I slowly raised myself with help from him and others and finally sat on the curb. One look at my painful ankle showed it was swollen and greenish, so I decided to go to Queen Mary Hospital for an X-ray and medical advice, for fear of having sustained a fracture. The taxi driver was helpful enough to stop as close to the emergency door as he possibly could. A staff member came out to meet me with a wheelchair, was I glad to see him! In the short span of time between 10.45am and 12.30pm, I was registered, had met a doctor, been X-rayed, saw the same doctor again and was grateful to God that it was only a bad sprain. How smart care and smart hospitals can ease Hong Kong’s health burden I got the necessary treatment and a sheet of instructions as to what I needed to do at home; I even got the VIP treatment of being pushed in the wheelchair to the taxi stand to get home. I have nothing but praise for our government hospital services, they do such a great job of helping patients. And last but not least, I had my two doses of Covid-19 vaccine ; and I urge all citizens to do likewise in order to reach “herd immunity” to revive the economy in our city. Trust our government.
