As a Hong Kong-born permanent resident currently living and working in India, I make a personal appeal to my fellow Hongkongers to think hard about vaccination. Writing to you from the world’s worst Covid-19-affected nation, I can assure you that your minds will change when this disease comes closer to you and you have witnessed what I have for weeks (“ Hong Kong’s Indian diaspora mobilises to send help amid Covid-19 crisis ”, May 21). Television images show the reality. Why wait for that? It may not happen, but it may well happen. The vaccine brings hope and truly saves lives. I, along with hundreds of millions of Indians, are desperately seeking the chance to be vaccinated. The Hong Kong government has an excellent vaccine programme that is the envy of the world. I respect the choice to vaccinate and also understand a small minority have no choice for various reasons. Many here in India have had no choice and never will. They are just yet another tragic victim on a burning pyre . I know what I’d do. Mark Sutch, Mumbai
