Sanctions should not be used to politicise commercial disputes

  • It makes sense for Beijing to set up a specialised court to hear lawsuits against foreign financial entities that have allegedly damaged the ‘legitimate interests’ of Chinese domestic investors. But Beijing should learn from the US and not abuse its financial power to further its own interests by using sanctions for narrow foreign policy goals
