John Lee must continue to tackle misconceptions about Hong Kong
- Chief executive is right to travel the world to tell the good stories about the city, but the mission to restore our international ties and image will be a long-term one

Hong Kong is on the global stage again – so says John Lee Ka-chiu in a government advertisement summarising his achievements since taking the helm last year.
The chief executive was referring to efforts by his team to renew the city’s international ties following the social unrest and pandemic.
Over the weekend, he concluded an overseas trip seeking to consolidate relations with Asean countries.
The city leader did not return empty-handed, having sealed numerous agreements during the week-long trip.
This includes 11 memorandums of understanding signed with Malaysia, noticeably one with the MTR Corporation’s involvement in property development for a transit rail project linking Johor Bahru and Singapore.
Earlier, another 22 deals with Singapore and Indonesia had been secured, covering education, trade, logistics, finance, aerospace technology and other areas.
