TGE Gas Engineering sees favourable prospects for new LNG builds in Asia
- TGE commissions the world’s most compact liquefied natural gas (LNG) receiving terminal in Shenzhen
TGE Gas Engineering, a leading global contractor specialising in cryogenic storage facilities for liquefied gases, marked a major milestone last August when it commissioned the world’s most compact liquefied natural gas (LNG) receiving terminal. The Shenzhen LNG Peak Shaving Terminal occupies an area of almost 35,000 square metres, a mere one-tenth of the space of a conventional LNG receiving terminal, yet features all the ancillary facilities and transport functions.
“This development is the first full LNG terminal that we did in China and highlights our move to develop small to mid-scale installations as we seek to reach more of Asia, including its islands and remote locations,” says Markus Ecker, CEO of the Bonn-based technology-focused company.

TGE has considerably expanded its business in China and Asia as a whole in the last 10 years since becoming a majority-owned subsidiary of China International Marine Containers (CIMC) in 2008. With CIMC as a strong industrial partner, TGE has become a major force in serving the international energy, oil and gas, petrochemical and chemical industries. It delivers added value to customers by providing a complete range of engineering, procurement and construction services, from concept/feasibility studies through lump sum turn-key project execution.
TGE sources considerable parts of its revenues from projects in China and mainland Europe. To diversify its client base, TGE, in collaboration with CIMC, is following up on potential projects in Asia, particularly in Bangladesh, Vietnam, Indonesia, Thailand and the Philippines. TGE is also making good progress in Russia, and is in the process of reviving its activities in India.
