Supporting Petronas in its bid to become Malaysia’s top producer of Euro 5-compliant diesel, contract services provider Dscaff is installing more than a million cubic metres of scaffolding for the duration of Petronas’ expansion plan in Malacca – the largest oil and gas project in the country today. Employing 170 skilled workers for the refinery project alone, the leading trader, manufacturer and designer of construction scaffolding equipment has seamlessly elevated its business by taking on ambitious contracting projects within the petrochemical, infrastructure and energy sectors.
Commissioned to design and supply a bespoke formwork solution for the Jakarta city centre elevated toll road project in Indonesia last year, Dscaff seeks to serve more engineering, procurement and construction companies in Southeast Asia through partnerships and project collaborations.
Armed with material and engineering know-how, Dscaff is the first scaffolding solutions company in the region to achieve ISO 45001 certification, also known as the occupational health and safety standard. A pioneer in designing and implementing advanced mobile-based management systems for data, logging all elements of each scaffold on a project, Dscaff is on track to becoming a one-stop centre for all scaffolding requirements, from recommending the correct material standards to managing manpower, training and materials supply.
“We are digitising our processes, and we have introduced Tag-It where we apply software, mobile and web-based applications to manage scaffolding projects more efficiently and comprehensively,” says Sunderaj Nagalingam, managing director. “This will greatly increase transparency and productivity as we can easily generate and share reports with clients and fulfil requests more quickly.”
As engineers, manufacturers and inventors ourselves, we are at the forefront, and we have the material and service know-how that sets us apart
Dscaff is a trailblazer in the scaffolding industry. Taking a closer look at developments in the construction sector, the company has taken advantage of modern materials that are lighter and stronger, and applying a more intelligent way to integrate scaffolding solutions that adhere to international standards, Dscaff became a preferred scaffolding supplier shortly after it was founded in 2013. Its wide range of scaffolding and safety systems – from tubular, modular to alloy truss – caters to the challenges of various industries and applications without compromising quality and safety.
“Any newly imposed standards and requirements in the country, we are always the first to adopt and to give opinions to relevant authorities,” Nagalingam says. “As engineers, manufacturers and inventors ourselves, we are at the forefront, and we have the material and service know-how that sets us apart.”
The group enhanced its trading business with the formation of an adhesive and dry mix business arm. Its new business model continues to emphasise collaboration and strong relationships. Trust is key; and to become Southeast Asia’s “go-to” company for scaffolding needs, Dscaff infuses exceptional customer service and attention to detail in all its activities.
“We have already introduced innovation into our products, and now we are applying the same principles to our operations and management systems,” says Chris Hillier, director. “We target to change industry norms with our advanced live data-logging tracking system, which will allow us to maintain scalable quality control on regional projects as we grow.”
From hiring people with the right attitude and aptitude to adopting world-class technology and client-servicing skills, Dscaff’s workplace culture upholds the company’s goals of retaining, motivating and improving its teams, allowing it to take on bigger and more challenging projects.
“We innovate by looking at gaps in the market to give us an edge,” Hillier says. “We look at issues and address them. And by working on these gaps and concerns, we created something new – a more transparent and efficient system. We took away misguided volumes and claims, and through this, we continue to capture customers’ hearts.”
