1. A Bigger Splash

Tilda Swinton, Ralph Fiennes, Dakota Johnson and Matthias Schoenaerts form the impeccable ensemble in this darkly seductive suspense noir by I Am Love director Luca Guadagnino, who makes a sensual feast out of watching rich and beautiful people suffer. (Opens on June 16)

2. Raging Bull

One of Martin Scorsese’s and Robert De Niro’s finest films, this 1980 American classic charts the path to self-destruction – through one indelibly violent bout after another – in the career of real-life professional boxer Jake LaMotta. (June 18, part of UA CineHub’s FilmSporting programme)

3. Sing Street

After the acclaim for Once (2007) and Begin Again (2013), John Carney has now completed his trio of modern musical dramas with this relentlessly joyful coming-of-age film, which finds its autobiographical roots in the filmmaker’s own childhood in 1980s Dublin. (Now showing)

4. Heidi

The Swiss Alps provides the gorgeous backdrop for this latest adaptation of Johanna Spyri’s timeless children’s novel, directed by Zurich-born Alain Gsponer. Anuk Steffen is a particular delight as Heidi, bringing enchanting life to the role of the sprightly orphan. (Opens on June 16)

Long before he returned with last year’s masterful Mad Max: Fury Road , George Miller started the road rage franchise with this 1979 low-budget Australian cult classic, unleashing a young Mel Gibson on the evil bikers who murdered his best friend. (June 18, part of Cine Fan programme)
