However, the pain has been eased for fans, with members of the group – Harry Styles, Niall Horan, Liam Payne, Louis Tomlinson and Zayn Malik – having launched solo careers since, with varying degrees of success.
Styles seems to be faring better than most of his bandmates as a solo artist, moving in a more rock-oriented direction and seeing his debut solo album hit the top of the US charts last year.

What Makes You Beautiful
After coming together as a boy band for the British reality show The X Factor, One Direction released their debut single, signalling the arrival of a new pop phenomenon. It went straight to the top of the UK charts, and was one of three singles from their debut album Up All Night that hit the top 10 in the UK.
One Direction made history when they became the youngest act to have a single (Little Things) and an album (Take Me Home) debut at No. 1 simultaneously in the UK. The album also spawned another No. 1One Way or Another (Teenage Kicks).

Best Song Ever
This is the stand-out track from One Direction: This Is Us, a 3D documentary and concert film which was released around the same time as the band’s Where We Are Tour – the highest grossing concert tour of 2014. The song also smashed viewing records on online video channel Vevo, being watched 10.9 million times in 24 hours.
Sign of the Times
Styles’ first solo single came as a surprise to many One Direction fans, with its influences from glam and indie rock. It was included on Styles’ self-titled debut solo album, which hit No. 1 in the US.
The second single from his debut album saw Styles movein a more country-folk direction, and won himcomparisons with the likes of Beck and Ryan Adams. Although it didn’t chart as high as the previous single, it revealed a new side to the pop star and showed that he was a singer with more than one direction.
