US pop-rockers Maroon 5 have announced they will perform their first concert in Macau next year, forming part of the ongoing tour for their latest album, Red Pill Blues.

The Venetian Macao resort will play host to the Sugar hitmakers on March 3, 2019, as the band celebrates their sixth record, which has sold more than one million copies worldwide since its release last November.

The Los Angeles six-piece will hit the Cotai Strip exactly one month after appearing at the NFL Superbowl in the coveted headline slot at the huge sportings event’s half-time show.

Already, there is speculation that the band will be joined at the mid-game extravaganza, which has seen Bruce Springsteen, U2, Madonna, Coldplay and Lady Gaga perform in recent years, by rapper Cardi B, who features on Maroon 5’s recent single Girls Like You. The song spent five consecutive weeks at number one on the Billboard charts.

Red Pill Blues – named after a scene from 1999 sci-fi film The Matrix – is the first to feature Sam Farrar as an official member of Maroon 5, after he joined the band as a touring musician in 2012. The record, which features hip hop talents ASAP Rocky, SZA and LunchMoney Lewis as well as singer-songwriter Julia Michaels, marks an unbroken run of platinum records for the rockers, despite receiving a mixed critical reception.
