China lifts thermal coal import quota by 20 million tonnes, but Australia unlikely to gain

  • Russia and Indonesia are likely to benefit from an increase in China’s thermal coal import quota this year, after it was lifted by 20 million tonnes
  • But analysts say Australia, one of China’s three biggest suppliers of seaborne thermal coal, is unlikely to gain while subject to an unofficial ban
