The four-day visit to China by US Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen is seen as the latest attempt to ease bilateral tensions following last month’s trip to Beijing by Secretary of State Antony Blinken, which had been delayed by February’s balloon saga.

What are the major Chinese concerns?
A widely cited demand from Beijing is to remove punitive trade tariffs imposed by former US President Donald Trump in 2018, as their removal is seen to benefit both countries.
Xie Feng, China’s ambassador to Washington, during a meeting with Yellen on Monday asked the US to attach great importance to resolving trade and economic issues, saying they are China’s main concerns.
The demand has raised speculation that US Secretary of Commerce Gina Raimondo, or other high-ranking officials, will also visit China later this year.
Beijing is also deeply concerned about escalating US tech curbs.
