Being the parent of a young dancer can be an intimidating experience, especially if you have never danced before. One minute you’re dropping off your little one at their first dance class, and then you’re navigating weekly classes, dance exams, and performances. As one of Hong Kong’s leading dance schools, Twinkle Dance Company is here to share our survival guide to support parents who are setting off on this whirlwind of dance! Don’t expect too much, too soon Stepping into a studio can be both exciting and daunting for your little one. New surroundings, new faces and brand new skills to grasp! Some children settle in pretty quickly, while others take time, but it is important to remember that they are still learning by observing and taking in their new surroundings. Show Interest Outside of Class Get involved in your child’s learning process by asking them to show you what they have been learning. This is very beneficial because it helps them retain information and broaden their understanding of the steps. Ask them to demonstrate or even teach you some steps to boost their confidence! Each term at Twinkle Dance, we introduce a new and exciting theme to allow students to learn dance fundamentals and technique in a fun and creative way! Our engaging themes create the perfect starting point for parents to encourage their children to talk about what they’ve learned in class. In our upcoming November-December term theme ' Let It Snow' , we will be exploring all things merry and bright! This is just one of the many themes we will incorporate into our classes to help connect our students’ everyday interests with dance! Encourage daily stretching and the practice of strengthening exercises Create a small space at home designated for your child’s practice, as it will motivate them to practice regularly. Stretching and strengthening at home plays an important role in your child’s dance development, plus it’s easier for children to gain flexibility while they are still young. Ask your child’s teacher to provide some easy at home exercises. Promote dance etiquette Discuss what is expected of your child from the beginning. Wearing fitted dancewear, footwear, and neat hair helps them understand that they are going to a structured lesson each week. Remind them to use their manners and they’ll never step a foot out of line. Instead of running around the city looking for ballet slippers or tights, look no further as we carry all your dancewear necessities at our Twinkle Dance locations . Always show how proud you are of their achievements Being a number one supporter means being positive through the ups and downs of being a dancer. Show that you care about their personal improvements. Focus on the positive and encourage your little one to always try their very best! Twinkle Dance hosts various dance events throughout the year so that parents can see all the great achievements that their kids have made! Our seasonal Production Team program allows students to learn new and exciting choreography to perform at different events around Hong Kong. Each year, we also organise RAD Ballet and JazzAddict examinations. These are just a few of the many activities and opportunities we provide our students.
