Looking for Extracurricular Activities for your Child?

BySCMP Events
Contributed by Jennifer Chin, Founder of Whizpa.com
Finding suitable kids’ interest classes and extracurricular activities for your child such as sports, arts, coding, academics, languages, STEM, performing arts, cooking, chess, robotics or even yoga can be daunting. Traditionally, a lot of us rely on word of mouth from friends and family. Imagine, what if you have an online aggregator platform that can search, sort and filter what you are looking for simply at the tip of your fingers in the comfort of your home? This was the dream project that was started 8 years ago by Jennifer Chin, the founder of Whizpa.com and a mother of three children, who grew up in Hong Kong.
Over the years, Whizpa.com has connected many parents to learning centers, schools, kids’ entertainment venues, kids’ retailers, education consultants, charities and healthcare providers through its events, workshops, online platform, social media, webinars and ebook publications. Whizpa.com aims to make education, parenting and kids’ related information more transparent and accessible to parents in Hong Kong. Whizpa.com also provides a platform for parents to give reviews and read other people’s reviews on learning centers, schools and other education services/products providers in Hong Kong. This is especially important for working parents, parents with more than one child and those who are visiting Hong Kong for the holidays looking for short term camps for their children.
As for schools’ admission, the fierce competition amongst the top international schools and local schools in Hong Kong means limited spots for the many applicants they receive each year. Hong Kong has always been a multinational and multicultural city and demand for international school spots have been very high. This is much more so as many families from China also moved to Hong Kong in the past few years for work and to start a family. The expatriate community continues to stay strong in Hong Kong despite the pandemic. Whizpa.com has been an active organizer of monthly international school webinars for parents and families in Hong Kong as well as live educational events in partnership with various English and Chinese media companies.
