Hong Kong is celebrating the 25th anniversary of our reunification with the motherland. The past 25 years have seen the resoundingly successful implementation of “one country, two systems”, “Hong Kong people administering Hong Kong” and a high degree of autonomy.

It is a time of myriad opportunities, and also a time of multiple challenges as there remain many deep-rooted problems that we need to solve as one united people. I am confident that with our return to order and stability, we are poised to achieve even greater success in the next 25 years and beyond.

During my election campaign, I promised to start a new chapter for Hong Kong by building an efficient administration that is result-oriented and solution-driven. We must preserve and leverage Hong Kong’s openness and freedom and its global inter-connectivity, and continue to strengthen our city’s reputation as a global financial, transportation and trade centre, build Hong Kong into an international innovation and technology centre, as well as facilitate Hong Kong’s integration with the country in its national development.

I shall do my utmost to unite Hong Kong to start a new chapter together – one that guides the city from stability to prosperity. Let’s look ahead past our recent troubles and join hands to build a more liveable, open and vibrant Hong Kong. It is our home. We have to make it happen.
