On October 4, 1957, the Soviet Union launched the world’s first artificial satellite. An historic milestone that would radically change the world of communications. Today, satellites are fundamental to our daily lives, and the number of launches is increasing. Here we analyse the 1,234 operational satellites orbiting Earth today
