The burgeoning Pedder Building gallery scene is set to welcome a new neighbour.
Lehmann Maupin, the New York-based gallery, is joining the ranks of Sam Lee Gallery and the Gagosian Gallery in the building.
The opening was announced over tea at Amber in The Landmark Mandarin Oriental on Thursday. Founder, David Maupin was on hand with his business partner, Courtney Plummer.
What really got pens poised was when they were asked who they would be bringing to this year's Art Basel fair.
Maupin played it coy: "Art fair programming is very important and very exciting. Usually what we try to do is secure one or two large-scale works, kind of like the anchor of the booth, and have those in production well in advance. Then we try and build around that and try to make a coherent statement about the gallery."
Plummer was more forthcoming, saying the art fair would feature "a little bit of everyone", including South Korean artist Lee Bul, who will also be the subject of the first show at the new gallery. She is putting together an exhibition for the opening, inspired by her experiences in Hong Kong.
