French jewellery maison Van Cleef & Arpels hosted an exclusive gala dinner at the Lyric Theatre of the Academy for Performing Arts, at which it presented its new collection, named Palais de la Chance.

The event on Friday was attended by the powers that be at Van Cleef & Arpels, including new president and chief executive Nicolas Bos and some of the brand's famous fans.

Among Van Cleef's many local celebrity admirers is singer-actress Deanie Ip Tak-han, who attended the dinner and gushed about how much she loved the brand.

The new collection comes just in time for the festive season and the traditionally prosperous Year of the Snake.

The line features more than 150 new pieces of jewellery created around universally recognised symbols of luck.

Bos said the line was inspired by a favourite, if perhaps inscrutable, phrase of the late Jacques Arpels: "To be lucky, you have to believe in luck."
