THE funeral of the 'Tiger of Tsim Sha Tsui East', a senior triad figure reportedly killed in a car crash in Thailand last month, took place in Hong Kong yesterday.
About 100 men in their mid 20s, dressed in ceremonial black and white and wearing dark glasses, arrived at the Universal Funeral Parlour in Hunghom in several coaches at about 6 am to attend the funeral of Sun Yee On member Wong Cheong-ying, alias Wong Chun.
Walls were covered with scrolls and wreaths, many bearing messages of sympathy and loss. Wreaths were sent by the Heung brothers, Wah-shing and Wah-bor - film producers and businessmen - and actors.
After a Taoist ceremony, the coffin was placed in a hearse and about 30 men surrounded the vehicle and raised their arms.
The body was cremated at Cape Collinson, near Chai Wan.
Wong, who was 39, fled the territory in 1991 while on bail facing extradition to the United States on a drugs charge.
