Apple, Samsung increase market share despite drop in global smartphone sales
Sales of Huawei, Oppo and Xiaomi handsets also grew in the second quarter, while smaller vendors focused more on local markets continued to struggle

Global smartphone sales saw a modest decline in the second quarter of 2017, as market leaders Samsung and Apple consolidated their positions, according to a new report.
The survey by research firm IDC shows South Korean giant Samsung holding on to the top spot by delivering some 79.8 million handsets for a 23.3 per cent market share.

Apple held on to the number two spot with a 12 per cent share after delivering 41 million iPhones.
Samsung and Apple both slightly increased their market share compared with a year earlier, increasing sales 1.4 per cent and 1.5 per cent respectively, IDC says.
Huawei was the third largest vendor, with an 11.3 per cent market share. The Chinese electronics giant closed the gap to Apple with 19.6 per cent unit sales growth, adding two percentage points to market share from a year earlier, according to the survey.

Chinese manufacturers Oppo and Xiaomi rounded out the top five with a market share of 8.1 and 6.2 per cent, respectively.
