Within 24 hours three photos of the pair in different poses had already attracted more than 110,000 followers – and plenty of adoring comments. As of publishing time it had seven posts and 203,000 followers.

Sheeran, 27, has been honoured for his attachment to cats, with a figure of the folk-pop phenomenon unveiled in June by Madame Tussauds at London’s first cat cafe.

He is also not the only celebrity with a love of cats.

Fellow pop star Taylor Swift has two, named Olivia Benson and Dr Meredith Grey.

Swift, 28, has reportedly applied to trademark the name “Meredith & Olivia Swift” and her website has merchandise for sale featuring the cats’ likeness.

They are not alone. Here are some other famous peoples’ pets on Instagram:

1. Choupette

This fluffy white pet belonging to fashion house Chanel’s head of design and creative director Karl Lagerfeld needs little introduction. She even has her own Wiki page. As if that’s not enough, she two maids, Françoise and Marjorie, on call to tend to her fur and beauty needs and to keep a diary of her activities and moods.

Lagerfeld loves his cat so much that in a June 2013 CNN interview he says he wished he had married her. “There is no marriage, yet, for human beings and animals … I never thought that I would fall in love like this with a cat.”

2. Neville Jacobs

“I’m Marc’s dog” is the message on the Instagram account of Neville Jacobs, the pet canine of American fashion designer Marc Jacobs. It’s easy to see why this bull terrier has 210k followers – he has bucketloads of attitude. He also has his own book: Neville Jacobs: I’m Marc’s Dog pops with photographs documenting the creature’s life.

What sets this Instagram account apart from the others is its inclusion of a link to the website of

The Sato Project, an organisation that rescues abused and abandoned dogs in Puerto Rico.

3. shantiombb

This cute, white fluffy feline is one of many pets owned by US singer and songwriter Miley Cyrus. And just like her famous mama, this cat has some fun, albeit, odd Photoshopped snaps.
