Jazz World proprietor and concert promoter Clarence Chang is a happy man. Having long championed the music of Enrico Pieranunzi, he is finally able to present the pianist in concert in Hong Kong.

Pieranunzi and his new trio will appear at Youth Square Y-Theatre on September 9 as part of the Jazz World Live Series.

"From the first days of Jazz World in 2001 we have been promoting Enrico's music to our friends and customers, along with a few other European artists who have long since become the trademark of Jazz World," says Chang.

"Enrico has become an important name in modern jazz piano. He does not come to Asia much - he has only toured Japan once - so this is a rare chance to see him in Hong Kong with his great new trio of Larry Grenadier on bass and Jeff Ballard on drums, both from Brad Mehldau's famed trio."

Grenadier has played in Hong Kong with pianist Mehldau as part of a Hong Kong Arts Festival music programme in 2005, with Ballard's predecessor Jorge Rossy on drums.

Pieranunzi, 63, has played with many of the most prominent figures in modern jazz. He is strongly influenced by fellow pianists McCoy Tyner, Herbie Hancock and Bill Evans, and has made a point of working with former members of Evans' trios.
