What I’m listening to: I reach for the familiar when I’m working and recently cavorted down memory lane when my husband and I compiled our wedding playlist. Pet Shop Boys and Erasure featured prominently, which got my mother and grandma on the dance floor.

What I’m reading: as a woman in tailoring – traditionally a male profession – I am continually questioning norms of image, sex and power. I’ve just picked up Sex and Suits: The Evolution of Modern Dress, by Anne Hollander. Her analysis of the emergence of fashion as a means of self expression and gender identification is especially relevant to the intimate arena of my work with bespoke clients.

What I’m watching: Although the writers have killed off almost all of my favourite characters, Boardwalk Empire has still been worth seeing through to the current season, and the tailoring is divine.

What artists I’m following: I think Ming Wong is stalking me. He practically lives in Hong Kong, is showcasing works at Spring Workshop across the road from my studio in Wong Chuk Hang, often drops by for lunch, and I even [saw] a video work of his in Basel in June.

Where I’m surfing: I follow a lot of sewing blogs. I find the lone home dressmakers to be the most inspiring. The generosity of those who make and post how-to articles and videos is humbling, and changing the way we acquire skills.
