What I’m listening to: I’ve had Taylor Swift’s Blank Space on repeat since it came out – it’s so catchy. I like country artists Kacey Musgraves and The Band Perry, and I recently discovered Lzzy Hale, a real rock star with an incredibly powerful voice.

What I’m reading: I’m on a dystopian kick at the moment. I just finished On Such a Full Sea by Chang-rae Lee. Now I’m reading The Uglies, a YA series by Scott Westerfeld. I’m also listening to an audiobook memoir by a woman who grew up in the Church of Scientology.

What I’m watching: House of Cards. Kevin Spacey’s performance is riveting. I’m also anxiously awaiting the next seasons of Game of Thrones and Orange is the New Black.

What artists I’m following: I love violinist Lindsey Stirling, who happens to be from my hometown [Gilbert, Arizona]. She has done some great collaborations with Pentatonix, John Legend and Lzzy Hale, and always brings something new and creative to her performances.

Where I’m surfing: I follow a lot of publishing and writing blogs (especially HughHowey.com) and spend plenty of time clicking links on Twitter. My guilty pleasure is Buzzfeed; it’s like internet candy.

(As told to Doretta Lau)

Shannon Young’s memoir, Year of Fire Dragons, is out now on Blacksmith Books.
