After over two years of Covid-19 restrictions, Hong Kong is finally back on the international music map.

The Post understands that the 180-year-old orchestra, widely acknowledged as one of the world’s greatest, and best known for its New Year’s Day concerts of music by the Strauss family, added the city to its Asia tour at the last minute after the Hong Kong Jockey Club offered to sponsor them.
The Vienna Philharmonic’s Asia tour, organised by Wu Promotion, a Beijing-based cultural production company, will now begin in Hong Kong, where the orchestra will perform music by Richard Strauss, Johannes Brahms, Antonín Dvořák and Richard Wagner under the baton of Austrian conductor Franz Welser-Möst.
