Hong Kong pianist Rachel Cheung on her debut classical album Reflections, featuring works by Beethoven, Chopin and Ravel that have inspired her career
- Cheung has chosen three works she says have guided her career for her album. ‘I have played these pieces a lot throughout my career,’ the 31-year-old says
- She calls the album, featuring a set of Chopin preludes, a Beethoven sonata and Ravel’s Miroirs, ‘a collection of reflections that I had as a pianist’

Aptly titled Reflections, Hong Kong pianist Rachel Cheung Wai-ching’s first international album is a collection of classical music pieces that have guided and inspired her over the past two decades.
Produced by the Grammy-winning Michael Fine, Reflections comprises works by three composers – Frédéric Chopin, Ludwig van Beethoven and Maurice Ravel – which have played an important role in the former child prodigy’s career.
“The whole album is a collection of reflections that I had over the past years as a pianist,” Cheung says. “And I have played these pieces a lot throughout my career.”
Her new album starts with the 24 Preludes Op. 28, short solo piano pieces written between 1834 and 1839 by Polish composer Chopin.

“The 24 preludes are like small different episodes which happened in my life that combined together into a journey that has formed what I am, and who I am, today,” she says.
