Justin Bieber gets Hong Kong jumping at private Calvin Klein concert

Model Kendall Jenner also appeared at the event at Kai Tak Cruise Terminal

Justin Bieber made a flying visit to Hong Kong on Thursday, jetting in for an invite-only concert at Kai Tak Cruise Terminal. The Canadian pop phenomenon was set to make a surprise appearance, but judging by the scores of fans outside the event, diligently waiting and hoping to catch a glimpse of their idol in the heat and humidity, the secret got out long before he landed in the city.

The event was put on by Calvin Klein Jeans as part of its #mycalvins global campaign and Bieber, 21, who caused a stir earlier in the year with his CK underwear campaign, was joined on the red carpet by supermodel, reality television star and fellow CK ambassador Kendall Jenner. Korean-American singer Jay Park opened the event as guests filed into the cavernous venue that had Hong Kong harbour as a backdrop.

On his second visit to the city, Bieber played a short, high energy set that momentarily came to a halt after the second song when he revealed to the crowd that he had torn his trousers. After teasing the audience with the suggestion he take off his pants to reveal his brand-appropriate underwear, the singer disappeared for almost 10 minutes, returning in a new outfit and what should have been a truncated set. Instead, a shirtless Bieber played three songs in an encore that included the new remix single Where Are U Now, produced by Skrillex and Diplo, ending, to the crowd’s delight, with his most widely recognised hit  Baby.

Backstage, with Jenner and his entourage hovering in the background, Bieber told the Post that he loved “fashion” and that “mixing with the world of fashion has been really cool” citing a recent experience at the Met Gala in New York. The singer joked that the CK collaboration had come about because the brand saw that he “was getting buff and they were thinking ‘we want JB’”. Bieber said that he had felt some nerves before doing the much talked about underwear shoot, adding “I just wanted to be really ripped, so I worked out every day with my trainer, ate a lot of healthy food. I started hard about two weeks before the shoot. I was working out before that, but for two weeks I went hard.”

Despite his forays into fashion, music is still the star’s first love and Bieber is set to release his fourth studio album this year. On the topic of his new record, Bieber revealed that a release date has been set and that he has been working a great deal with Kanye West, although, now being something of a veteran with managing the media and building hype he was loathe to reveal the actual details.
