This year sees the annual celebration welcome an eclectic mix of classical performers from across the globe. We’re especially excited about the closing selection, Faust, by Charles Gounod and libretto by Jules Barbier and Michel Carré. A co-production of the music festival and the Lyric Opera of Chicago, this tragic tale revolves around the titular doctor, who tempts fate and sells his soul to Satan in exchange for his youth. Tosca
Giacomo Puccini’s three-act opera will be brought to the stage by the city’s oldest opera company, Opera Hong Kong. Set in Rome in 1800, this melodrama follows a pair of lovers who, in an act of good will and jealousy, become ensnared in political intrigue, on the day and eve of Napoleon’s invasion.
