Lagerfeld firmly in the style high club with ‘Chanel Airlines’ show
Ever the showman, designer's spring-summer 2016 collection took an aviation theme and had the backdrop to match
Karl Lagerfeld transformed the hallowed halls of Paris’ Grand Palais into an airport terminal, complete with a departures and arrivals board, check-in counters, airport seats and even luggage trolleys – all, of course, branded Chanel – to show a spring/summer 2016 collection with a flying theme.
There were graphic blue, white and red checks; loose tiered skirts and sporty joggers – lovely, relaxed and fluid. Long scarf dresses with airport- and aeroplane-themed prints looked effortless and casual, while the classic skirt suit came in clean shapes and crisp colours. Lagerfeld brought on the bling with silver beading, metallic sequins and textured organza layers. Comfy flat sandals and chunky heels in aluminium and silver came lit with LEDs like runway lights. And to complete the aviation theme, models wheeled Chanel luggage along the fashion runway.
Chanel’s shows are always epic, and with a star-studded front row that included Lewis Hamilton, Cara Delevingne, Lily-Rose Depp, Vanessa Paradis, Liu Wen and Hilary Tsui, the French brand is still flying high on style.
