If you’re looking for some inspiration on what to do this weekend, we have you covered.
Culture vultures can catch Wes Anderson’s latest offering, The Phoenician Scheme, or artist Ernest Chang’s exhibition “Artifice” at The Stallery.
Fans of all things South Korean can celebrate its traditional alcohol at the inaugural Taste Sool: The First Sip, an artisan liquor festival taking place at PMQ, while K-beauty brand Glint launches in Hong Kong, available exclusively at Sephora.
For something more relaxing, spend Sunday at a chilled meditation and sound healing session at The Glasshouse at Celestial Heights, in To Kwa Wan.

1. ‘Artifice’ at The Stallery

“Artifice” features a strange, indoor Zen garden full of traditional Chinese scholar rocks that are shaped like contemporary symbols for things like currencies, Bluetooth and Wi-fi.
Made by Ernest Chang, founder of The Stallery, this new series of work signifies the tension between permanence and ephemerality, and between the natural and artificial.
“This exhibition is about those kinds of conflicts – the human-made versus the natural, the new versus the old, the real versus the artificial,” Chang says. “In this sense, every piece is a reflection of what it means to be human in an increasingly artificial world.”
The exhibition also marks the Wan Chai gallery’s 10th anniversary.

Taking place for the first time is a brand new festival at the PMQ Taste Library and the Korean Cultural Centre in Hong Kong that celebrates Korean artisan liquors.
Held from May 30 to June 1, the event features a strong line-up of brewers and experts on-hand to guide visitors through the craft.
Taste Sool: The First Sip will feature workshops, tasting sessions, a marketplace, and one-off collaboration dinners with fine-dining restaurants around the city.
Eight artisan producers from Korea are flying in for the occasion to share their insights, knowledge and, of course, their prized pours.
Among the highlights will be a masterclass hosted by Park Sung-ho, founder and master distiller of Jinmaek Soju, the award-winning spirit that was featured on Netflix’s Soju Rhapsody.
Also getting hands-on is brewer Choi Woo-taek of Seoul’s Together Brewery, who will be hosting a workshop on making strawberry makgeolli and tasting fruit makgeolli, while also unveiling a limited-edition bottling created especially for Hong Kong and the festival.

3. The Phoenician Scheme


Feeling like the antithesis to the new Mission: Impossible film, Wes Anderson’s latest feature, The Phoenician Scheme, is an old-fashioned espionage caper styled in the exquisite, delicately hewn manner for which Anderson is famed.
Perfectly cast in the lead role, Benicio del Toro – who featured briefly in Anderson’s 2021 film The French Dispatch – plays Zsa-zsa Korda, a shady tycoon thought to be one of the richest men in Europe.
Korda decides to entrust his estate to his only daughter, Liesl (Mia Threapleton, the daughter of actress Kate Winslet), a devout nun. She is suspicious of the offer, but feels she might be able to use his money for “good works”. So begins a mildly baffling journey. Read our full review

4. K-beauty brand Glint lands in Hong Kong

South Korean beauty brands have dominated the industry for decades. One of the new kids on the K-beauty block is Glint, a subsidiary of make-up powerhouse VDIVOV.
To celebrate the brand’s arrival in Hong Kong – available exclusively at Sephora – Glint is hosting a pop-up at Sephora’s flagship store in Central’s IFC Mall until June 18. Fans can stock up on cult favourites including its baked blush (HK$140), stick highlighter (HK$155) and liquid highlighter (HK$115).
From June 6-8, customers can also enjoy a one-on-one beauty consultation at the flagship store with one of Glint’s professional make-up advisers to help them select the most suitable product shades and make-up styles.
Also keep an eye out for exclusive shopping privileges across Sephora stores, such as a complimentary Glint fan brush upon purchase of more than HK$300 of Glint products.

5. Sunday Serenity: meditation, sound healing and kombucha

On Sunday morning, find inner peace and calm inside The Glasshouse at Celestial Heights, in To Kwa Wan.
Organised by Flow & Friends, the event sees mindfulness teacher Issie lead a one-hour guided meditation with sound healing to relax the mind and body.
Beginners and seasoned practitioners are welcome. Mats are provided.
Connect with others afterwards over a glass of good-for-the-gut kombucha from Lectcha, developed by Chinese medicine practitioners in Hong Kong.
The event runs from 11am to 1pm and costs HK$350. Click here for details and to book.
