Review | 0.0 MHz film review: K-pop singers Jung Eun-ji, Lee Sung-yeol in second-rate supernatural horror
- The K-pop stars make forgettable film debuts in this poor horror flick that brings nothing new to the genre, and crushing boredom soon sets in
- Jung is barely more animated than the ghosts tormenting her, while Lee seems to be marking time before doing his military service

1.5/5 stars
K-pop artists Jung Eun-ji (from the girl band Apink) and Lee Sung-yeol (of boy band Infinite) make their big screen debuts in first-time director You Sun-dong’s supernatural thriller. They form part of a team of amateur ghost hunters, who venture into the Korean countryside to investigate a supposedly haunted house.
The film’s title, 0.0 MHz, refers to the frequency of human brainwaves required to communicate with spirits from the other side. What the rest of the group do not know, at least at first, is that new recruit So-hee (Jung) can see dead people – all the time.
0.0 MHz follows hot on the heels of last year’s Gonjiam: Haunted Asylum , which proved a notable success at the box office.
Boasting a similar premise, that film followed a gang of excitable and slightly obnoxious thrill-seekers as they ventured into the notorious asylum. Live-streaming their ordeal from go-pro cameras, their ultimate goal was to get rich as viewer numbers soared, only for their ruse to backfire when they encounter very real malevolent spirits.
You’s film is decidedly more traditional, and as a result struggles to bring anything new to the tried and tested formula of tormented beauties clashing egos in the dead of night.
