Second Hong Kong full-moon party apparently cancelled after Fyre Festival-like fiasco at first Shek O beach event
- Full Moon Party Vol 2 in July deleted from social media after disastrous first event, where DJ used portable speakers and free drinks meant two beers
- Party-goers who had mostly paid US$70 to attend what was billed as city’s biggest beach party of the summer likened it to infamous 2017 Fyre Festival

People who had signed up to the Full Moon Party Vol 2 received a notification on social media on Friday morning saying that the event had been deleted, and the party has disappeared from the Facebook page of party organiser Luxnetworking.
Last Saturday night, up to 500 people descended on the popular beach on the south side of Hong Kong Island to attend what Luxnetworking had advertised as the city’s biggest beach party of the summer, which it promoted using an image of a large-scale event on Koh Phangan, Thailand.
Entry prices ranged from HK$200 for the 50 limited early-bird tickets to HK$550 (US$70) for all tickets sold after May 19.

Expecting free-flow wine and spirits and a large sound system, revellers were instead greeted with the sight of a DJ performing on a plastic dining table using small portable speakers, given two cans of cheap beer and told to pay for further drinks unless they posted a positive comment on the organiser’s Facebook business page.
