BTS win best group at American Music Awards, beating the Jonas Brothers and Panic! At The Disco, and best tour, ahead of Elton John, Pink, and Ariana Grande
- K-pop superstars take home top prize after becoming first band since The Beatles to score three number one albums in less than a year
- They also win best tour, capping a memorable 2019 in which they won the MTV Music Video Awards for both top K-pop video and group
K-pop band BTS took home the big prize at Sunday’s American Music Award (AMA) in Los Angeles, beating out The Jonas Brothers and Panic! At The Disco to be named best pop or rock group.
They also won the best tour award, besting Elton John, Pink, and Ariana Grande, and best social artist.
Of the three categories in which the group were nominated at the AMAs, all eyes were on the best group award, where a win for BTS would make history, as they would be the first K-pop band to win the honour. They faced tough competition from the likes of the Jonas Brothers and Panic! At the Disco – although last time the Jonas Brothers and BTS were up for the same award, at the VMAs, BTS came out on top.

BTS have done well as the AMAs before. Last year the group took home the award for favourite social artist, and in 2017 they made their US television debut on the AMA stage, becoming the first K-pop band to ever perform at the awards.
