Anya Taylor-Joy may just be the hottest young talent in Hollywood right now.

The 24-year-old is earning some of the best reviews of her career for The Queen’s Gambit, Netflix’s seven-part adaptation of the Walter Tevis novel, about a female chess prodigy in 1960s America. Just this week, the streaming giant revealed that the show is their most successful scripted limited series to date, attracting more than 62 million viewers in the four weeks since its global release on October 23.

Meanwhile, film lovers are also excited by the recent announcement that Taylor-Joy will inherit the role of Furiosa from Charlize Theron, in the upcoming prequel to George Miller’s Oscar-winning action movie, Mad Max: Fury Road .

Born in Miami, raised in Argentina, and educated in the UK, Taylor-Joy first gained recognition in Robert Eggers’ 2015 horror film The Witch, and in 2017 was awarded the Trophée Chopard by the Cannes Film Festival. Past winners of the prize, which recognises new talent, include Audrey Tautou and Tang Wei.

Taylor-Joy has since appeared in television shows such as Atlantis, The Miniaturist, and Peaky Blinders, and in a range of memorable movies. She will next be seen in Edgar Wright’s psychological horror film Last Night in Soho.
