Game of Thrones prequel reveal: House of the Dragon photos and character descriptions released by HBO
- The HBO series focuses on the Targaryen family 300 years before the events of Game of Thrones
- Photo stills from the series show the family sporting the mother of dragons’ signature white-blonde hair

Westeros is back. And it’s very blonde.
HBO released the first images this week from its highly anticipated Game of Thrones prequel series, House of the Dragon.
The series, based on author George RR Martin’s Fire and Blood, follows the Targaryen family 300 years before the events of the original series. And in the first glimpse of the new series, the relatives of Daenerys Targaryen (Emilia Clarke) are sporting the mother of dragons’ white-blonde hair.
House of the Dragon recently began production and is set to debut in 2022.
The three images show five of the series’ characters standing stoically on a beach (maybe the shores of Dragonstone, the ancestral seat of Targaryen power) clad in Westeros’ best finery. But the real hints are in the character descriptions HBO provided with the images.
One image shows Emma D’Arcy as Princess Rhaenyra Targaryen and Matt Smith (The Crown) as Prince Daemon Targaryen. HBO describes Rhaenyra as “the king’s firstborn child, she is of pure Valyrian blood, and she is a dragonrider. Many would say that Rhaenyra was born with everything … but she was not born a man.”
